My Bluewater Day Spa Fun Run Pics

Joined my second race last October 17, at the Bluewater Day Spa Fun Run.  It was a simple race with a lot less fanfare compared to the first race I joined.  It was well-organized and had ample hydration stations. I liked it.

And I finally have running pics kasi this time, naintay na ako ni JR before the finish line.  hehe yes ginising ko na naman sila ng madaling araw para samahan ako.  Here are the pics!

I’m quite happy with this race kahit na simple lang talaga.  And I improved my personal best!

My First Race! Rexona Run 2010

Before the run

Before the run

This was the first ever race I joined and it didn’t disappoint. I was kinda jeetery before the event because of the various negative feedbacks from other big running events which made me a bit hesitant to join. As I said earlier, when I started running, it didn’t occur to me that I would be joining any race. However, reading about how other people join a lot of races got me curious. That’s what I get for joining takbo.ph LOL! Having friends who are active runners (i.e. joins races) also helped motivate me to register for this event.

Gunstart for the 5K was scheduled to be at 5:30am but I arrived at the venue a bit early (around 4am LOL) so I wouldn’t have any problems parking. This gave me time to do some warm-ups and a couple of pictures. There were a lot of runners there already and most are doing warm-up runs as well.

I went looking for my friends but it was like looking for needles in a haystack! So I just stayed in the assembly area to wait for the start of the race.

After the 21K and 10K started, we were ‘herded’ over to the starting area. I stayed in the middle thinking those ahead of me were faster. The big screen showed 2 guys leading us for some more warm-up exercises which were kinda awkward because it was really crowded and any slight movement will surely hit someone else. Then the screen showed the 5K route, then the countdown. The crowd was hyped up now and were counting down together out loud! It was such a rush! Feeling ko New Year na haha!

Since I was in the middle of the pack, it took a few seconds of walking before I reached the starting line and I didn’t know if I had to step on it or not for the D-Tag, saw others stepping on the line so I just did so too LoL! Then as soon as people stepped on the line, off they went a-running.

#3377 THIS SIDE UP

It was a very nice day for a run. Cloudy/Sunny. While most complained of the humidity (as later on I found uploaded pics of a lot of guys going topless during the run), I was comfortable with it. Probably because I usually do my weekend runs in Island Cove (tabing-dagat din) which would have a similar humidity level as MOA.

There were a lot lot lot of hydration stations with both water and power drinks. I only took a bottle of water on the last station just to try it, to get a feel of what its like. Ended up almost drowning (LOL!) because I haven’t tried drinking while running before. One thing I didn’t like was how the other runners dispose the water bottles. Kasi pagkainom, basta na lang ibabagsak sa side nila, not even considering if may tatamaan or worse matapilok pa. I wonder kung ilan ang natapilok or natamaan during the run. Is this really how it goes? I don’t see any complaints in the forums about this though, so I guess its just the way it is.

I ran the whole 5K listening to Motiontraxx 165BPM podcast. I didn’t want to burn myself out early kasi, so I paced slowly lang but in hindsight I should have tried at least the 170 or even 180BPM. There being a lot or runners, weaving through the slower ones was a challenge din. And I clocked 34:11 off the chip (34:59 gunstart time) at the finish line which is not bad for a first timer, pero I felt I could have done better because I wasn’t actually tired. In fact, I felt bitin pa talaga. Maybe it was because of the ‘rush’ or the ‘high’ others talk about when they join races kaya ganun. Adrenalin rush…wonderful! I didn’t even get side stitch!

It was really a wonderful experience running in a Runrio event and I am thankful that I allowed peer pressure to push me in joining this event as my ‘virgin’ race LOL!

Rexona Run 2010

Lining up for the Photovendo

I have only one regret though: I wasn’t able to meet other takbo.ph peeps. I was with 2 of my kids kasi (para mapichuran sana ako during the run, pero sadly, di nila ako nakita nung dumaan na ko sa pwesto nila kasi nagpipichuran silang magkapatid dun sa gilid ahaha!) And after the race, ungot na sila ng ungot na gutom na gutom na daw sila (well di ko na sila pinilit na mag-ikot pa kasi ba naman I dragged them literally out of bed at 3am on a sunday!)

Now I can’t wait for my next race!

Congratz to the Runrio Organizers! Well Done! Fabulous! Fantastic! Brilliant! Astounding! Magnificent!

My Very First Singlet & Bib#

Rexona Run 2010

I have started running as an exercise only last March 2010 because I wanted to lose a few pounds. It was never my intention to join any race so I just ran as leisurely as I could. But after a while, I got more and more engrossed and searched for more information on the internet about running which led me to Takbo.ph where Pinoy running enthusiasts share ideas, tips, race events, and alot lot lot more. And I found out later that some of my friends were also into running and were already joining races!

So this Sunday, August 1, 2010 at about 5:30 in the morning, will mark my very first ever official race.

When I checked-in today for my flight back to Manila from Iloilo, the girl at the counter asked if I had any baggage to check-in.  I hate checking-in my bag when I fly, especially if I got to the airport a bit earlier than required, because when you check-in early, your baggage will appear last in the baggage claim conveyor.  That’s why earlier in the week (and on most of my flights before) I hand-carried both my bags  on my Manila-Davao and Davao-Iloilo flights. So I said I had none and intend to carry both my bags.  The girl looked so surprised and insisted that I put my luggage on the scale (it weighed 9kg) then told me that I was only allowed to only one (1) hand-carried item with a maximum weight of 7kg.  WHAT??  Then why was I allowed to hand-carry both on the two flights I took earlier in the week? Duh!  I proceeded to explain that I was already allowed both bags in the two flights I had but she wouldn’t listen to my protests.  I just thought that they have a new policy that they have to implement in order to keep costs down (?) and resigned to my fate that I will be watching a lot of bags, boxes of barquillos and other pasalubongs pass in front of me on the conveyor belt in Terminal 3.

What irked me was when the plane arrived in Manila, there were a lot of passengers who had not just one…not even two but had three (3!) hand-carried bags, some of which were even bigger (and most likely heavier) than mine!

Mukhang napagtripan ako nung babae sa check-in counter ah! Oh well…

WordPress for Blackberry

I was quite surprised to see a stand-alone blogging application for Blackberries on BB Appworld so I immediately proceeded to download and install it on mine. Though I still haven’t registered for a WordPress account because I already have a Blogger account plus a Multiply account. These two blog sites seem to lack this mobile application, but I think it is possible to send in a blog post via email.
So now, due to this app, I have to register. And register I did and now I’m trying its functionality and practicality.

The UI
Upon logging in (only needed once) you will be presented with a list of your blogs. Then you can view your posts, comments, etc.
Adding a post is a cinch. Just type away at your keypads. There are formatting keys at the bottom which are easy to understand.
Though you see the formatting marks and not a WYSIWYG type editing. Its not really a big deal.

Adding Media
Let me try posting a picture:

Ayun, I don’t know where its going to be placed. Haha anyway, its a picture of Durian fruits I saw while was walking back to my hotel the other night. Oh there are options pala, either on top or bottom placement of the pictures.
I think for quick off-the-fly type blog entries, WordPress For Blackberry is a decent alternative. But if you will require quite a few formatting, adding pictures, music, videos, it would be better to wait till you get the chance to use a computer.

Aliwan Fiesta 2010

Yung isa may dala-dala pang bandera (flag! Hindi yung tabloid!) ng Pilipinas. Pitikan uli.

Parang, ‘just another hot air balloon photo” kasi.

Waaaah! Ano to-its??
Ayun nasa sensor pala.

MS Word Tip: Print Multiple Copies of Individual Pages

Microsoft Word Tip: Print Multiple Copies of Individual Pages

Rick Broida

timestamp(1265760360000,’longDateTime’)Feb 10, 2010 8:06 am

Most Word users know how to print multiple copies of a document: Just change the Number of copies setting to the number you need, then click OK.

Okay, but what if you want to print multiple copies of select pages? For example, suppose your five-page document ends with a registration form. You need only one copy of the first four pages, but you want three copies of page five.

The secret lies in the Page range section of Word’s Print dialog. As you may know, by selecting the Pages option, you can specify which pages of a document you want for this particular print job. For example, you might enter 1-3, 5, which would print pages 1, 2, 3, and 5.

But you can also use this option to print multiple copies of individual pages. So in my aforementioned example, to get three copies of page five and one copy of everything else, you’d enter the following: 1-4, 5, 5, 5.

In other words, each time you repeat any given page number in that Pages field, Word will print an extra copy of that page.

Neat, huh? Can’t take full credit for this one; the tip came from Susan Harkins.
